Similar to bad weather swept through the northwest the night before, City overwhelmed United aside at the Etihad Stadium. It was a convincing three-nil victory for their manager's side owing to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that firmly established their championship potential as they reinforced their place at the top of the table.

Successive Setbacks for United

This result signalled successive Women's Super League setbacks for Skinner's side for the first time since spring 2024, placing them a significant margin off the league leaders with their trophy ambitions in serious doubt.

United’s ability to balance league and continental football with a limited team has been a hotly discussed issue since they secured entry to the Champions League. Reviewing the calendar, it always felt like this was the week that would truly test this ability. Regrettably for the opposition, they appeared weary from start to finish, the landmark win against Paris Saint-Germain clearly having left its mark.

Tactical Shifts
